Super Bowl History Analysis

Welcome to the website. I hope you enjoy it!

First, let’s find out how many games each state hosted.

We can look at a representation of which states hosted not only the most Super Bowls, but the most competitive ones as well via a boxplot.

We can look at another graphical depiction in the form of a scatter plot below regarding the deficits in Super Bowl games and the states that have hosted them.

A few notes:

Now, let’s see which 10-year period had more lopsided games. Lopsided games are games where the deficit is significantly high, implying that one team scores significantly higher than the other.

What will we find if we divide each 10-year period into 5-year periods?

Now, which 5-year period had more high-scoring Super Bowl matches?

We can even enlarge the scale to 10-year periods to see which decade boasted more high-scoring games overall.

Let’s now take a general look at how Super Bowl winning and losing scores trended over the first 55 years.

The NFL is comprised of two primary conferences: the AFC and the NFC. In the Super Bowl, one team from the AFC faces one team from the NFC. Let’s see which conference has won the most Super Bowls so far.

Each conference has four divisions. Let’s see which division contributes most to Super Bowl wins by examining the number of games won by each division. Conversely, we can see which division has lost the most games.

The bottom two graphs highlights a line graph representing trends in winning scores, while each point is colored by a division. Take advantage of the plotly features to examine the graph.

The two graphs allows us to see various trends, including which division appeared the most (and the least) in Super Bowl matches, which division participated the most in various decades, and even which division tends to score more.

Similar to the graphs regarding trends in winning and losing scores labeled by division, we can compare trends by conference as well.
